— To Rename Ukeli Road In Honour Of Eze Gideon Omodu
The chairman of Emohua local government area, Dr. Chidi Lloyd says the 1.5 kilometer Ukeli road project with 3 kilometer drainage being executed by his administration in Rundele (Ward 7) will be commissioned before the end of December, stating that necessary arrangements had been concluded for the contractor handling the project to return to site for the commencement of surface preparation for asphalt laying on the road.
He said he was going to invite leaders and stakeholders of Emohua local government area back to Rundele to commission the Ukeli road project in the next phase of project harvest in the local government area before the end of December 2022.
The council chairman said the delay in the completion of the project was occasioned by limited resources available to the local government council, stressing that the council cannot complete two road projects at a time because of the financial implication of road construction to a local government administration.
Dr. Lloyd spoke at St. John’s Anglican Church Rundele, during an extended thanksgiving service in commemoration of the 50th birthday anniversary of Ven. Christopher Idika on Sunday.
He frowned at the activities of some youths of Rundele who use different media platforms to cast aspersions on him and misinform the unsuspecting members of the public with fabricated information insinuating that his administration had abandoned the Ukeli road project, stressing that he would have as well abandoned the project to punish the ingrates who castigate him because of a road project his administration initiated out of his own volition but had decided to complete the road and shame his traducers because of his relationship with the people of Rundele.
The Emohua local government chairman said the Ukeli road will upon completion be renamed in honour of the paramount ruler of Mgbuola community in Rundele, Eze Gideon Omodu, in recognition of his contribution to the development of Rundele in particular and Ikwerre Ethnic nationality at large.
Speaking further, Dr. Chidi Lloyd commended the people of Rundele for always supporting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and enjoined them to preserve their PVCs for candidates of the party in the forthcoming general election, stressing that the PDP is the only political party that has the people at heart, as exemplified in his desire and commitment to asphalt Ukeli road.
In his sermon during the church service, Ven. Christopher Idika urged politicians who do not have the capacity to deliver democratic dividends to their people to stay away from elective positions, stating that occupying positions without attracting the dividends of such office amounts to a waste of representation to the people.
He enjoined the people to elect leaders with track records of performance in the next general election, so as to attract the presence of government to the area.
The Anglican priest congratulated Dr. Chidi Lloyd on his achievements within one year of his administration, describing the infrastructural revolution witnessed across Emohua local government area under the council chairman as unprecedented.
According to him; “I never knew that Emohua local government had money to execute projects until Chidi Lloyd came.
“I think he is doing what he is doing because he has the capacity to so do, and is willing to do so. Some persons may have the resources available but decide to pocket them but Chidi Lloyd said no, I will work for my people. That’s the kind of leaders we should be electing.
“He has completed and commissioned the road in my community (Evekwu) and I know that he will complete and commission this Ukeli road beside our church.
“In my 50th birthday, you gave my community road and you are doing this Ukeli road beside my church. I am very happy this is happening at this time.
“I congratulate you on your sterling performance within the past one year and we pray that God will continue to provide the resources for you to complete these projects.”
Paramount ruler of Mgbuola community, Eze Gideon Omodu who later played host to Dr. Chidi Lloyd and his entourage at his palace, encouraged the council chairman to resist the distraction from some misguided youths of the area and complete the good work he has started in Rundele for the overall development of the people of the area.
The traditional ruler said Mgbuola community in particular and Rundele in general are not ungrateful people, stating that the activities of some youths of the area was as a result of their ignorance of the workings of government, while appealing to the council chairman to forgive and consider the level of support he enjoys in the entire Rundele.
